Special Education

A variety of programs are available to students with special learning needs. However, not all students who experience difficulties in school are eligible for special education and related services. Often students may be helped through modifications and/or accommodations of the regular school program.

The law requires assessment of students in all areas related to their disability, and at the elementary level, referral for assessment is made through the Student Success Team (SST) process. This team is made up of the Principal, referring teacher, speech therapist, psychologist, resource specialist, and the parents. At this meeting, each student’s strengths and areas of concern are discussed and recommendations are made at that time for next steps. It is the goal of the SST and Mt. Diablo Elementary to give our students the opportunity for greater success.
